Please Share! Join us on April 28, 2018 & Welcome Home our Vietnam Veterans at Chukchansi Park with the Fresno Grizzlies!
It has been 44 years since the last troops came home from Vietnam. Although family and friends may have been thankful to have their loved ones come home, walking through the airports and train stations was not a celebratory experience for these service men and women;many were met with hostile words and actions…no thank you…no welcome home parades…no applause. Many Vietnam Veterans not only bear the scars from battle wounds, but also broken hearts from a country that was clearly divided and lacked the ability to acknowledge the immense price that had been paid by those young men and women. I am the wife of one of those Vietnam Veterans, and the stories I've heard throughout the years caused a passion inside of me that is now coming to fruition! It’s time to honor these veterans!!! Along with AMVETS, the Grizzlies organization, local business and community leaders, and friends like you, we are holding an event that will honor and celebrate the sacrifice and service of our Vietnam Veterans and their families, provide healing by giving them the much deserved “hero’s welcome home,” and educate the community on this important chapter of our nation’s history. Our theme is “Honoring. Healing. Educating.” and we have requested the event to feature (1) a military salute as we usher our Vietnam Veterans onto the Fresno Grizzlies baseball field (2) a formal flag ceremony (3) speeches from a city official and a military representative (4) a fly-over from our esteemed California Air National Guard's 144th Fighter Wing and (5) the Bulldog Blitz all-female skydiving team. In addition, we will watch an «all American» baseball game featuring our esteemed Fresno Grizzlies! All of these features will make up the important layers of honoring the Vietnam Veterans as we unite both past and current day veterans, all branches of military and individuals from around the valley and beyond.
