Please Join us for Tuesday night jazz with Randy Freeman
Randy Freeman’s first guitar came complete with a picture of Roy Rogers and Trigger on the top. That was 1961. That guitar sits in his practice room today. Around age five Randy’s dad taught him the basic chords to country western songs of the 50’s and 60’s. Not long afterwards a group called the Beatles released their first record album in America. The rest is history.
Fast forward fifty plus years later… you can always find Beatles tunes sprinkled throughout the set list of Randy’s weekly Friday gig at a local cafe’. In addition to solo acoustic guitar dates he keeps a busy schedule playing in several groups. Jazz Xperiment, or Jazz X, is a smooth jazz guitar duo with local guitar hero, Jim Hamption. Jazz X has two self released CDs of original material composed by Randy. In 2001 Randy started playing with long time friend and sax player Rick Arii. That collaboration became Real Jazz, a five piece jazz combo. Real jazz has experienced several personnel changes over the sixteen years they have performed together with Rick and Randy remaining at it’s core.
During his college years, Randy started teaching guitar lessons in a local music store. This is something he still enjoys doing. Randy has a teaching studio in his home where he meets weekly with students of all levels and ages. Helping someone master things on the guitar they couldn’t have done on their own gives Randy a great sense of fulfillment.
Very recently Randy recorded and released his latest CD, “From A Good Place”. It is an extended play compilation of six new original songs. Randy enlisted the help of keyboard player, Rick Tuttrupt and drummer, Gary Newmark. Both Rick and Gary are members of Real Jazz. The CD was mixed and sweetened at Hamptone Studios by Jazz X bandmate Jim Hampton. Check the music page to see how you can get your own copy.
